Background for anyone curious enough to still be reading, hehe. Tanka is a form of Japanese poetry that actually pre-dates haiku. The syllable structure is 5-7-5 7-7. Kind of a haiku with an epilouge ^_^. I made my card out of Yoshitaka Amano artwork, and a Japanese poem seemed appropriate. It works for the art, and because a short, honest sentiment is what I wanted to convey. So, here it is:
Moonlight in my eyes
I turn my face towards you
As you sing in smiles
Here is where I keep our love
Embedded in the night sky
Yeah, that took about 2.5 hours to get right. Pretty pathetic, huh? I'm not a poet by nature at all...but I had to at least try it. Because I know, if it does what it's supposed to do, I'll get that smile I love so much...and that's all I need this Valentine's Day.
