I dug into my bag and pulled out what has been named "Mary Ellen's Uberphat Trip-hop Mix v. 1.0". This thing has so much good music. We're talking Bjork, David Bowie, Spacehog, Gorillaz...simply damn good music. Anyway, I'm working and listening to the music as loud as I want, because, why the hell not? I'm the only one there! It's a huge room, might as well FILL it with music.
I finish putting the clay into my molds, press it down, and realize I'm done until it dries. That won't be for another day or so, and I might as well leave. But this is the first time in forever I've had a large amount of space and my music at any level I choose. I couldn't bring myself to leave. So I decide to clean up the studio tables while I listen. Then I ended up sweeping. Then, I'm singing along with the songs. Still, I just couldn't get into it enough. I pull a Gene Kelly and start dancing around the studio with the broom. I made up a tap routine to "Cryogenic Lover" even...and I don't tap! When there was nothing left to clean, I was sweaty and amazingly content.
I stop the music (after the David Bowie song was finished...couldn't stand to turn him off mid-song), and take the CD player over to the next room, where it actually lives. Sitting at the pottery wheel is a student working on a pot! I feel suddenly slightly embarrassed, but remembering she at least didn't see any of the dancing. I say "Hey, uh, here's the CD player again. I hope my music didn't disturb you." She said she'd actually really liked it ^_^ That on top of everything really made my day.
I do, however, desperately need a shower now.
