the tragedy...
so, we arrived home around quarter to nine in the evening on monday morning. after a long ride in the car, kelly and mariko and i were looking forward to unwinding a little with some tea and sweets.

we were settling in again at kelly's, and she checked her email. suddenly, kelly starts shaking.

her sister Bree was in the ICU at Johns Hopkins with a collapsed lung, and couldn't breathe on her own. she'd gone into the doctor several days before with something that looked like pnuemonia. the doctor perscribed some antiboitics and said it should clear up. it didn't. on saturday she'd been medivacked to the hospital. Bree is 14, and while my mom told me this sort of thing does sometimes happen, especially at younger ages, it's still not all that common.

kelly tried to call her parents. and the hosptial. no luck. she got hold of her aunt, and then got in touch with her mom through her. kelly said if she didn't get better by the morning, she was going home. and that night, they put her into a medically-induced coma while they tried to figure out what's going on with her lungs.

kelly flew out at 6pm on tuesday evening, and made it home safely. i don't think she slept at all the night before. while her sister isn't in critical condition, and probably will recover, it's still very very stressful for everyone in the family, and so kelly went to see her sister and support them. her sister is in stable condition right now...she's not getting better, but not any worse either. no one's sure how long she will have to stay in the hospital. i imagine kelly won't be home for at least a week.

everyone, please send some good thoughts Bree's way. and some for her family. thank you.
