another fun day at elementary school
today, i woke up and hit the snooze on my alarm clock. after a little while, i woke up again and saw that it was already almost half past. i was gonna be late! so i dressed quickly, jumped in my car and sped off toward school. when i got there, though, no one else was there. what was going on i wondered...until i realized that my clock had said half past SIX, not SEVEN...i was an hour early to work. soooo embarassing. but, hey, i had some time, no huge loss, i'd just turn about and go back for a bit, and no one would be the wiser. execpt when i was pulling out of the school driveway, not just one but two other teachers were pulling in. including the weird fourth grade teacher i already think hates me. i'm sure everyone knew by the time i got back that i was here early for no reason...but at least it's an easy enough mistake to shake off.

today i had the older kids, the fifth and sixth graders. the kids in the sixth grade class were very disappointed that i'm not single, they wanted to try and fix me up with their teacher Yamashita-sensei. they tried again at lunch to talk me into marrying him, but i told them it would make my boyfriend very sad. they seem to think he must be sad and lonely because he's not married. i guess Kekkon Dekinai Otoko is on past their bedtime, hehe. Yamashita-sensei is cute and young though, so i'm sure he'll find a nice japanese girl to settle down with eventually, hehe.

i did manage to impress the same group at recess/cleaning time by knowing all the words to the evangelion theme song. i then discussed how anime is popular in america too, and of course they wanted to know my favorite characters, etc. glad to know all those hours of existential mecha anime weren't for naught! for the second day in a row, though, i have found it very very difficult to try and explain the concept of tacos. ::sigh:: at least i can explain that it's different than the japanese tako (octopus), though i'd imagine this wouldn't be a problem if octopus wasn't such a popular food. at least tako is better than ika (squid).

one more day here at the elementary school, and then it's off to the middle school on the weekend for sports day. because i'm working saturday and sunday, though, i get the next three days off after that. while this school has been fun, i still can hardly wait for monday, i could really use a good rest.

Okay, first of all, I've done the "Think it's an hour later than it really is" thing more times than I'd like to admit. I usually just sleep in my car, but I guess that's probably not a great idea for you.

Second of all, this guy:

is in Japan, in Misato-machi, Miyagi-ken, teaching. Not sure if he's JET, I think he is. He's real-life friends with one of the guys I game with, so I thought I'd pass his LJ on to you so you can perhaps meet up if you're desperate for another American at some point in the next year or so ;)

Hope your weekend goes well. Have a great rest on Monday! Saturday is the Fabulous Ms. C's birthday, so I'll be hiking up the big hill and doing a few of your favorite things and partying hard et cetera. I'll think of you the whole time!

Also, I like that my LJ icon is small enough that my replies have de facto indentations!

I'm such a nerd. :(

thanks for the info, the more friends the merrier i say!

and i hope you all have a great weekend. all my bestest friends will be doing my favoritest things, so i hope you all just think of me a little and i can enjoy the vibe from the other side of the world. give claudia a big ol' birthday smootch for me, and love to you all!!
