today i had the older kids, the fifth and sixth graders. the kids in the sixth grade class were very disappointed that i'm not single, they wanted to try and fix me up with their teacher Yamashita-sensei. they tried again at lunch to talk me into marrying him, but i told them it would make my boyfriend very sad. they seem to think he must be sad and lonely because he's not married. i guess Kekkon Dekinai Otoko is on past their bedtime, hehe. Yamashita-sensei is cute and young though, so i'm sure he'll find a nice japanese girl to settle down with eventually, hehe.
i did manage to impress the same group at recess/cleaning time by knowing all the words to the evangelion theme song. i then discussed how anime is popular in america too, and of course they wanted to know my favorite characters, etc. glad to know all those hours of existential mecha anime weren't for naught! for the second day in a row, though, i have found it very very difficult to try and explain the concept of tacos. ::sigh:: at least i can explain that it's different than the japanese tako (octopus), though i'd imagine this wouldn't be a problem if octopus wasn't such a popular food. at least tako is better than ika (squid).
one more day here at the elementary school, and then it's off to the middle school on the weekend for sports day. because i'm working saturday and sunday, though, i get the next three days off after that. while this school has been fun, i still can hardly wait for monday, i could really use a good rest.
