i took the text out of a cosmo article on the book in the picture. book marketing is some of the worst out there right now, i feel, and this little snipit of this (clearly pretty lousy) book gave me the idea to treat book advertisement as if it was fashion. i like fashion advertising in fashion magazines because it's honest. there's not usually a lot of text trying to convince me these are the clothes i want. they just show pictures of people wearing clothes and the label. by the standards of advertisment today, that's brutally honest. try looking at fashion adverts in rolling stone trying to convince you to buy their clothes because they love music or some such shit. it's really repulsive in my opinion. book advertising doesn't even try though. i thought, well, if you marketed books like fashion, how would you do it? what would that look like? this is just one silly idea. but it's the idea of putting the book open and showing it off to people, like fashion. and maybe someone would like it that way. it's opening the book and being honest about it. this is a lousy book bag because it's a lousy book. just an idea.
the first advert collage, buy-kini, is up on deviant art. i didn't put it up here because 1) it's slightly unsafe for work and 2) no one on dev seemed to like it so i let it be and 3) i'm a little lazy.
i have a problem with advertising. but my problem is that i feel like they don't know how to do it anymore. i'm almost afraid to see what happens to me because of it.
also, the iron and wine "woman king" ep kicks my ass all over the place and then kisses the boo-boos to make me all better.
