One more down, three to go...
Finished that writing exercise thingy. Not that anyone cares but me, I know.

Two exams and one huge-ass paper to go. All right.

You'd think I'd want to finish the big paper first, but it's the one with the latest due date, so it gets pushed back by all the things due before it. Let's hope I can live up the expectations Amanda has for me and just bang the motherfucker out in a day or two. Twenty pages is only ten single-spaced pages a friend reminded me today. I'm not sure if that's actually helpful or not, but I'm going to pretend for now that it is.

Well, yeah. That was mostly for my own peace of mind. If it doesn't go to pieces over the next couple days that is.
Mood: still pretty stressed

I only have a penny, so here it is
I never got the number of pages thing that academia seems so infatuated with. Shouldn't papers be more about how well (and coherently) one can argue a point/get a point across? Telling me the minimum number of pages that is acceptable just makes me lose sight of taking the paper seriously. I end up being more concerned with just filling space in order to meet the minimum rather than getting a good argument going or keeping it going. I guess that's just my sense since I haven't had to write a significant paper in a long, long time (Thanks art classes!)

Re: I only have a penny, so here it is
I totally agree. When the professor is not picky about it, and just gives it as a rough guideline for how much material should be discussed in the paper, then I'm good. This 20-pager is one of those, where the professor is more interested in content over length, but says "if it's only 10 pages long, you probably want to look deeper into the books". It's also a review essay, not a research essay, which means I have to talk about EVERYTHING we read/watched in class...that's about 13 or 14 items, so it's a little easier to "fill up space" when I have to address each one of them, even if it's only briefly.

When it comes to paper writing, I usually say everything I want to succinctly enough that I can get away with cutting a few pages here and there, or adding if need be, but that's unusual. If it's a 12 page assignment, I usually hand in 9-11 pages. I expect I'll probably come up somewhere around 17-18 pages on this one.

But you make a valid point. Art classes sound like a good idea...

OR! Zinzer (might be Zinsser. I'm not sure of the spelling.) Anyways, the guy Mr. Goetch (sp) loved. Can't remember if you had the wonderful oppurtunity of having him Pat, but if you did have him, you should be able to catch my reference (hopefully.)
