If you had to choose...
In friends, the quality of their character or the quality of their personal devotion to the friendship--what do you value more?

Quality of character, as, if that were to suffer, I wouldn't care quite so much to have them as a friend, thus rendering the devotion null as a benefit.

But does devotion speak of a deeper character? This I wonder...

I've had people deeply devoted to me, and capable of deep devotion in other areas as well, where I very much did not care for their character. Case in point: my ex-fiance BJ.

Though, I do have to wonder how devoted he truly was to keeping the friendship, when he did stuff he knew would piss me off?

And then, there are those people whose character I find excellent and greatly complementary to mine... who rarely call back, never answer their e-mail, and I see them perhaps four times a year when circumstances do not bring us together on a regular basis.

But then... their devotion to the friendship when we do meet is excellent... just not a steady, everyday effort.

In my opinion...
High character, low devotion = strong, forceful personality

Low character, high devotion = stalker

Definately character.
