Almost makes me want to shop there...
Leaving work last week, I was walking by American Eagle's doors, and I heard the music playing inside and walked on past. Then I did a double-take. Was that Flaming Lips I was hearing? In the mall? I listened. Yup, it was The Flaming Lips all right. I immediately went into the store and had the following exchange.

Me: Excuse me, I'm sorry, but I have to know who here put this album on.
Unsuspecting sales boy: Uh...it's the company's. They send one to all the stores with a lot of stuff nobody knows on it.
Me: Wow. I just had to ask, because this is off The Flaming Lips new album, and I was just amazed to hear it in here.
USB: Flaming Lips?
Me: Yeah, this is from "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots". One of the best albums of the year. Fantastic music. Well, thank you again. Sorry to disturb you.
USB: Really? Okay. Thanks. (probably relieved I was leaving, but seemed at least a little interested).

This is the song they were playing, and today, I just can't stop listening to it.

The Flaming Lips
Fight Test

I thought I was smart - I thought I was right
I thought it better not to fight - I thought there was a
Virtue in always being cool - so when it came time to
Fight I thought I'll just step aside and that the time would
Prove you wrong and that you would be the fool -

I don't know where the sun beams end and the star
Light begins it's all a mystery

Oh to fight is to defend if it's not
Now then tell me when would be the time that you would stand up
And be a man - for to lose I could accept but to surrender
I just wept and regretted this moment - oh that I - I
Was the fool

I don't know where the sun beams end and the star
Light begins it's all a mystery
And I don't know how a man decides what right for his
Own life - it's all a mystery

Cause I'm a man not a boy and there are things
You can't avoid you have to face them when you're not prepared
To face them -
If I could I would but you're with him now it'd do no good
I should have fought him but instead I let him - I let
Him take you -

I don't know where the sun beams end and the star
Light begins it's all a mystery
And I don't know how a man decides what right for his
Own life - it's all a mystery

Mood: mellow yet edgy

Out of all the bands mentioned in this post, the only one I have ever heard is Gary Numan.

:(

I need to start abusing this broadband soon.

Don't feel too bad about it, the name of the mix CDs are "Indier than Thou". It's mostly stuff even we just learned about, so don't worry. It's not easy being indie...

you'll abuse it and you'll abuse it BAD.
