catching up over the weekend
here's what i've been up to in case you were wondering where the heck i've been this weekend:

on friday, i had my regular japanese lesson, which is always a bit stressful, but also helpful. with the Japanese Language Proficiency Exams coming up on my fast (Dec. 3rd!!), every little bit really does help. Kimura-sensei also asked me if i had time to maybe do some private tutoring of my own, as she has a friend looking for an eikaiwa (english conversation) tutor. a chance to make a little extra money doing something relatively simple? i'm down! if she is free the days i am, it's a done deal, despite it "technically" being against my contract.

after that, it was off to the Tsuji's for another ikebana lesson, with Kelly this time. we had to wait a lot longer to get to do the arranging, but i think the results came out nicely. last time was traditional style, so this time we did modern style. while we were doing that though, i got an email on my keitai from one of the teachers at Ichikawa Jr. High saying they were having a party, and asked if we could join. so Kelly and i took our ikebana apart and made a rather hasty exit to the party. we ate some delicious food and had a nice conversation with Kishiguchi-sensei, and for only having to pay 1000 yen each got pretty full. as fun as both thees things were, it was also tiring having to try and think in japanese and sit in seiza for so long. i pretty much crashed right when i got home.

on saturday, i should have been in a party mood, but really, all i wanted to do was stay home and lay low. a rainy day plus a developing cold and pms kept me from really feeling up for much besides cleaning the house. which i did. but i'm sorry to all the people who called me on saturday, i left my cellphone charging all day and didn't get out of bed a couple times when the phone rang. i'm a party pooper :(.

sunday was another class day. Kelly and Mariko and i went to a pottery workshop one of our eikaiwa (that's the town's eikaiwa, not un-allowed) students and her husband were having. he's a master traditional style potter, and we played with clay and ate lunch and played with clay and had tea and played with clay some more. being that the workshop was outside and it was pouring didn't really help my cold, but i made a base for my future ikebana projects (so i don't have to borrow Tsuji-sensei's anymore), a large coffee mug and a funny-looking vase. they won't be fired for some time, but it will be fun to have them once they are. we got home around 5, made dinner, and pretty much collapsed again. i woke up on kelly's sofa around 1 and when back up to my apartment and found i couldn't get to sleep again for a while. had a terrible dream about grinding my teeth til they all chipped away.

this morning, i felt more drained than rejuvenated. i had a good time over the weekend mostly, but it was hard to want to get out of bed and go to work. i had the handicapped classes today, one of which went very well and the other of which didn't really go that great, which is always discouraging. still, no time to mope--i'm preparing for tonight's eikaiwa and tomorrow's classes, so it's back to work again. hope you all have a good one, catch you later.

Saturday was a crappy day for weather! I hope I didn't bug you too much with phoning you, but I was catching a train out of Himeji and wanted to see if you were up for hanging out, so I phoned you every once and a while until I passed Fukusaki. XD Shut up I'm not a stalker..

it's really funny trying to figure out what ikebana is from context.

it sounds like some kind of sculpture.

what is is?
